Youth Innovation Center-Hub
Alleviate to empower
Empowering Youth
Building Peace
Transforming Mozambique’s Future
Vision:
To be the leading youth-led organisation that promotes youth inclusion in mainstream development through providing them with ideal spaces to flourish and amplify their voices.
Mission:
To build youth resilience and promote their effective community participation by propelling their work in peacebuilding, climate action, gender inclusion, SRHR, and resource mobilization.
Who We Are: From Club to Center
The Youth Innovation Center-Hub (YiC) is a youth-based non-governmental organization working to uplift youth aspirations across Mozambique. We currently operate in the three provinces of Cabo del Gado, Manica, and Sofala.
Our Roots:
We began as the Centrol De Desenvolvimento para jovens em Mozambique (CDJM), a simple community club in the Nhaurir area of central Mozambique, coordinating friendly soccer matches and cultural dances.
Our Purpose:
In response to the current political tensions in Mozambique, we formalized our mission. We fill the critical gap between youth engagement in the prevailing political environment and the need for creative, productive mindsets focused on peace and sustainable development. Our goal is to ensure young Mozambicans utilize the nation’s rich cultural and natural resources to build a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive society.
Our Methodology: Grassroots Power
Our strength is the functionality of our grassroots committees. We work with dedicated Youth Innovation Committee volunteers located directly within strife-ridden communities.
Inspired by the youth and women in these areas, our methodology is to use locally available resources and volunteers to facilitate:
-
Community Dialogues
-
Community Theatre & Music
-
Sports (e.g., friendly soccer matches)
This approach fosters community development, peace, and harmony between people of different or perceived different political affiliations.
Our Programmatic Cluster
- Peacebuilding  Propelling youth work in fostering harmony and non-violence. Includes: Conflict Early Warning and Interfaith Dialogue initiatives.
- Climate Action Engaging youth in sustainable development and environmental stewardship, leveraging Mozambique’s natural resource endowments.
- SRHR Cluster Promoting and advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) awareness and mainstreaming among youth.
- Women Empowerment Specifically focusing on the inclusion and upliftment of young women to drive community development.
- Conflict Early Warning Using grassroots networks to identify, report, and mitigate potential conflicts before they escalate.
- Interfaith Dialogue Creating spaces for youth from different belief systems to find common ground, fostering peace and mutual respect.
